Scooter & Motorbike Security Tips

Unfortunately on facebook we are seeing a lot of Motorbikes and Scooters being stolen. Allegedly on some occasions it has been reported some may have been taken by force, but just because its on facebook does not mean its true, but we have had club members followed and chased by scumbags and a few Scooters stolen from gardens and once attempted theft while the bike was parked up at Minchellas while the rider was getting a coffee.

In this blog there are some suggestions on what you can do to help protect your bike and yourself and what type of crime to report if thew worst does happen. Some of these suggestions are common sense, but some might be useful so here it goes.

Lock your Bike - use multiple lock types, when leaving your vehicle, even when parked up and locked up for the night to make things more difficult if the scrotes do get into your shed or garage.

Vehicle trackers - Plenty of options on the market, so do your home work on what suites your budget and check the reviews.

On the Road - If possible try riding in groups as there is safety in numbers. We know these scrotes usually ride in small groups twos up on electric bikes or stolen kit. When travelling home make sure you are not being followed.

Social Media - When posting on social media make sure your videos or photos do not show enough info of where youu live or what security you have and where your bike is stored.

Self Defence - carry self defence spray (legal options), plenty of options available online on Amazon etc. again do you research and check reviews.

Sheds & Gates - Make sure you have decent locks on sheds and gates to again make it more difficult for them to get at your Scooter or motorbike. if possible fit a ground anchor in your shed or garage to lock the vehicle to.

Remove the keys - Basic but essential, remove the keys everytime you leave the bike, even when its in the garage or shed, even pop the steering lock on for the craic.

The list can go on with other options such as shed alarms, CCTV, Motion lighting in the garden etc. and there is more on this subject in in this link to the Met police - Metpolice

Crime Reporting/Self defence - When reporting incidents please make it clear what offence took place:

Bike Theft - stolen from place of work our outside.

Burglary - Stolen from shed or garage,

Robbery - stolen from you in your possession.

Armed robbery - If you are threatened with a weapon and taken from your possession.

Selfdefence - info from Gov.uk website on the rules of self defence (UK) if necessary (hopefully not)

The current law on the use of force in self defence

  1. The current law permits people to defend themselves or others, to prevent crime or to protect property using force that was reasonable in the circumstances as they believed them to be. What constitutes `reasonable force' will depend upon the circumstances of each case and is a matter for the courts to decide. The courts have held that if a person uses only such force as he or she honestly and instinctively believed was necessary in self defence, then that would be strong evidence that only reasonable defensive action had been taken.

Hopefully some of this maybe of use and help you keep your pride and joy safe from the scrotes. Stay safe and keep the faith
